Oprah Winfrey Show

Media magnate Oprah Winfrey told her audience today that she plans to end her talk show, "The Oprah Winfrey Show," in September of 2011.

"Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and feels right in my spirit," Winfrey said.

The Chicago-based talk show has become an afternoon staple for millions of Americans during its run. Here's a look as some of the highlights.

Oprah Winfrey

The billionaire talk show host descended on the White House on Thursday, accompanied by a giant array of personnel and equipment, to interview President Barack Obama for her coming prime-time Christmas television special.

In addition to a solo interview with the president, Winfrey conducted a joint conversation with the president and his wife, Michelle, and filmed a tour of the White House holiday decorations for their first year in office. She also had her first meeting with Bo, the family's Portuguese water dog.

Winfrey has interviewed Obama on other occasions, but not since he became president. She also shared the cover of her magazine for the first time with Michelle Obama, in this year's April issue, which also featured a long interview with the first lady about decorating, helping women, parenting philosophy, life in the White House and other topics.

Winfrey has been in the Obama White House at other times. In addition to coming for the Feb. 17 interview with the first lady for her magazine, Winfrey was on the guest list for an inaugural reception.

Winfrey's relationship with the Obamas dates to their days in Chicago.

Most notably, she lent her celebrity status to Obama's presidential campaign, her first-ever political endorsement. She appeared with him at high-energy campaign rallies that drew tens of thousands of supporters, raised money and cheered him on at the Democratic National Convention.

Winfrey also was seen weeping in the crowd during Obama's election night victory speech in downtown Chicago.

Her "Christmas at the White House" show will be on ABC on Dec. 13 at 10 p.m.

Madonna

Pop singer Madonna’s former pal Rupert Everett has revealed that the singer has not forgiven him after he branded her an 'old whiny barmaid' and published intimate secrets of their friendship in his 2006 autobiography.

The actor befriended the ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker in 1985 when she first began dating Sean Penn and, in his memoir ‘Red Carpets and Other Banana Skin’s, Everett admitted he was fascinated by her from their very first meeting. "She really didn't like it (the book). I think it is very affectionate, and certainly with her I was very careful to only write things that were,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“But she felt it was an infringement of privacy... Goddesses like that are obsessed with their public image and want to control everything about it, so if anyone is to tell anyone anything about her it's got to be her," he added. Everett, who played the role of Madonna's gay best friend in 1999's The Next Best Thing, insists the singer has never forgiven him, adding, "Elephants don't forget... She doesn't trust me any more."

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is indeed the new Madonna - but not because she shares Madge’s fetish for outrageous outfits.

The now-ubiquitous Gaga/Madonna comparisons based on the their shared pop-trash fashion sense don’t go deep enough. Go beyond the boy-toy belts and bottle-blonde ’dos and you see that Gaga - who plays a sold-out Citi Wang Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday - has the same plan as Madonna: global domination through artistic autonomy.

The biggest pop stars of the ’80s - Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince and George Michael - had enough ego and acumen to pilot their own careers. And because they were at the wheel, they didn’t let handlers stifle their eccentricities. Singing “Like A Virgin” in a wedding dress, moonwalking with a single, sequined glove, and dressing like a purple pirate while moaning about “Darling Nikki” masturbating with a magazine weren’t gimmicks dreamed up by a team of managers, producers and record execs. They were stunts that came naturally from artists with autonomy.

By the late ’90s, the industry favored manufacturing pop stars over discovering them. Lou Pearlman invented the Backstreet Boys and N’Sync, Disney spawned Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Miley Cyrus, and now “American Idol” pumps out pretty faces.

But Gaga is different. Her fabulousness isn’t prefab.

Gaga - born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - didn’t come up through one of industry’s farm systems. Like Madonna Louise Ciccone, Gaga picked up her style in the streets and clubs of New York City and invented her own image, one that played against the mainstream.

Her music, even more than her fashion sense, makes it clear she’s calling her own shots. You can hear her brash personality on “The Fame,” her year-old debut (re-released last week with an added 8-song EP as “The Fame Monster”). It comes off as one woman’s vision, not a piece of pop product produced by consensus.

In this way, “The Fame” is the opposite of Adam Lambert’s new “For Your Entertainment,” a made-by-committee mess which employs Pink, Rivers Cuomo, Kara DioGuardi - and Gaga - along with 23 additional producers and writers. If Lambert is going to be a star, he needs to go Gaga by dumping his handlers and insisting on artistic autonomy, as he he did at last week’s American Music Awards when he kissed his male keyboardist and stuffed a male dancer’s face in his crotch. To survive, he’s got to let his sizable ego and, if he’s lucky, sizable acumen take control.

Of course, dancing to your own tune is no guarantee of success. Not everyone has what it takes to be the master of his or her own destiny. Madonna did. And Lady Gaga does. And that combination of moxie and talent, more than any amount of theatrics and costume changes - is what truly links the two.

Beyonce Knowles & Taylor Swift

The Grammy stage is set for a redux of one of the most infamous moments in music award show history when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech after a win over Beyonce at September's MTV awards show.

"Don't worry, Taylor. Kanye West is not here," Smokey Robinson joked as he announced one category during the live Grammy nomination telecast from Los Angeles, California, Wednesday night.

Just seven of the 109 Grammy categories were announced during the CBS telecast, while the rest of the nominations filled 66 pages handed out to reporters.

Beyonce gathered 10 nominations, while Swift, a country-pop crossover sensation, was nominated in eight categories. West got six Grammy nominations, but all were for his collaborations with other artists. His solo performances were snubbed, suggesting there may have been fallout for his antics.

It was when Swift beat out Beyonce for best female video at September's MTV awards that West jumped on stage to declare Beyonce's work superior.

Beyonce and Taylor Swift go head-to-head in three Grammy categories.

West may have three chances to repeat his stunt, since Beyonce and Swift go head-to-head for record, song and album of the year. Lady Gaga was also nominated in those three categories.

Lady Gaga's single "Poker Face" and album "The Fame" helped her to five nominations.

Taylor Swift, just days away from her 20th birthday, crossed genre lines to take top honors at the MTV Music Video Awards, the American Music Awards and the Country Music Awards in recent months.

Jennifer Nettles, half of the country duo Sugarland, said Swift's success is exciting because she "has brought a lot of young people into country music."

The best musical comeback story may be R&B singer Maxwell who has been out of the spotlight for eight years. Maxwell's album "Blacksummers' Night" and hit single "Pretty Wings" brought him six Grammy nominations.

Maxwell performed a musical tribute to Michael Jackson during the nominations show, singing "Lady in My Life," a ballad from Jackson's "Thriller" album.

"I've been gone for eight years," Maxwell said later. "I've been throwing out my trash, buying my milk and living in basic obscurity."

Tiger Woods Hot News

It is an around-the-clock affair for news organizations hoping to break the latest information in the Tiger Woods scandal.

With more than one alleged mistress in the spotlight, gossip and celebrity magazines and Web sites are fielding a flood of news tips a day from women desperate to be a part of this media maelstrom.

"What happens in cases like this is once there is one allegation then there are always 10 more," said Bonnie Fuller, editor in chief of HollywoodLife.com and former head of magazines Us Weekly and Star.

"You have the real women who actually have had a relationship with a celebrity come forward, and then you have people creating these stories because they are seeking their own fame and fortune and attention."

Rachel Uchitel, left, pictured at a 2005 fashion show, is one of the women allegedly being linked with Tiger Woods.

Uchitel denied the allegations and hired celebrity attorney Gloria Allred to represent her.

The two women were scheduled to hold a press conference Thursday in Los Angeles, California, to discuss Uchitel's relationship with Woods, but canceled Thursday morning.

In the most damaging allegation yet, Us Weekly magazine reported in this week's issue that Jaimee Grubbs, 24, told them that she had a 31-month affair with Woods. The magazine, which identified her as a cocktail waitress, also published on its Web site what it said was a voice-mail message from Woods to Grubbs.

"Hey, it's Tiger," a man says in the recording. "I need you to do me a huge favor. Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone and may be calling you."

CNN could not independently confirm that the voice on the recording was Woods.
